We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Professor of Psychology who has extensive academic, teaching and research experience in an area that complements our departments strengths in areas of. We are particularly keen to receive applications from colleagues who have expertise in learning disability, neurodevelopmental disorders and neurodiversity. As a distinguished academic, the postholder will have an outstanding reputation in research (grant capture and 4* REF publications are essential) and be committed to delivering excellent research-informed education. They will provide inspirational leadership with excellent communication skills and a willingness to promote change.
Responsibilities
The post holder will provide academic leadership within their area of specialism by attracting research funding, advancing scholarship, and enhancing the profile of the research centre and wider University. They will play a key role in mentoring and developing staff, fostering a strong research culture, and leading interdisciplinary collaborations. A significant part of the role involves securing grants, supervising doctoral students, and delivering high-quality research with international impact. Additionally, they will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, enterprise activities, and professional engagement, while also taking on leadership and administrative responsibilities to support the Department and School’s strategic goals.
Person Specification
Essential criteria for the post include an international reputation in the areas of Learning Disability, Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Neurodiversity or a related field, with a track-record of world-leading published research and a proven ability to secure funding from a diverse range of grant funding bodies. Candidates will also have experience in supervising PhD students to successful completion and supporting the development of early career researchers. Extensive leadership experience in education, research and enterprise are also essential, with a proven ability to develop and lead on research strategies and projects. Furthermore, successful candidates will need to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of innovative pedagogy and commitment to enabling and delivering student learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
