Purpose
Established in 1986, City in the Community is Manchester City’s official charity. We support people across Manchester by empowering healthier lives through football. Our programmes place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whilst also creating healthy futures and healthy communities.
The People Advisor is a generalist role, partnering all departments within the charity. The purpose of this role is to provide specialist advice and guidance to CITC’s line managers and wider team. The role contributes to a wide range of projects that help to deliver CITC’s People Plan, supporting CITC’s 3-year strategy.
Part of a small in-house team of five, the role has an extended link to City Football Group’s wider People team.
Accountabilities
1. Operating as a trusted partner to key management stakeholder by providing proactive advice and practical support on all People-related policy and procedures. Using expertise to ensure consistency and promote best practice in the areas of ER case management, EDI, training and development, policy and compliance.
2. Managing CITC’s ER caseload to include conduct, performance management, flexible working, reasonable adjustments and grievance cases. Supporting and coaching line managers through the relevant processes, attending meetings and creating documents to ensure best in class, legal compliance.
3. Coaching and supporting line managers to prepare, conduct and complete robust investigations relating to complex situations and/or providing support to the wider team with related disciplinary and grievance case management.
4. Designing, delivering and facilitating inclusive training interventions that support CITC’s approach to line manager upskilling and internal development.
5. Analysing CITC’s People data to spot trends, suggest improvements and identify development opportunities that support progress towards our People KPIs and add value to department managers.
6. Leading the planning, meeting and activities of our staff engagement group focused on team wellbeing, inclusivity and belonging, and change and improvement to enhance employee experience and drive progress against CITC’s EDI Action plan.
7. Owning, undertaking and coordinating assigned projects within CITC’s People Plan, that support the function’s contribution to CITC’s wider strategic objectives.
8. Ensuring that CITC’s Safeguarding policy and procedures are embedded to the highest standard across the team. Work to ensure that safeguarding practices and principles are adhered to, ensuring our legal and moral obligations towards the framework.
9. Role modelling adherence to all CITC and CFG policies and procedures, increasing awareness. education and understanding of their purpose across all levels of the team.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
10. Experience of working in a generalist HR role in a busy environment
11. Strong knowledge of HR policy and procedures in practice
12. Experience working with diverse stakeholders across all levels of seniority and experience
13. Excellent at building rapport and own networks
14. Strong knowledge of employment law with the ability to coach and support line managers in a range of HR topics, with credibility
15. Experience of managing multiple BAU workloads, reactive issues and project work
16. Strong influencing, persuading and negotiating skills
17. Well-practised at giving and receiving both positive and developmental feedback
18. Ability to work in an agile manner, using on-the-job learning for self and others to create continuous improvement

21. CIPD qualification or working towards
22. Some experience of designing and delivering training sessions to line managers and wider groups
23. Some experience of evidencing work for audit purposes and working towards recommendations

26. Some knowledge and understanding of how a charity operates
