Overview

LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university. LSE Global School of Sustainability (GSoS) [Mobilising Political, Legal, and Governance Systems] Policy Officer (Sustainability Regulation Observatory (SRO))

Salary from £43,277 to £51,714 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £55,497 pa inclusive of London allowance. Funding is available to support this position for two years. The Global School of Sustainability (GSoS) is LSE’s new flagship initiative to advance global efforts to shape a brighter future for all that is sustainable, resilient, hopeful, prosperous and inclusive. It brings together experts from across LSE to deliver interdisciplinary research, transformative teaching, and high-impact engagement.


Role and responsibilities

The post-holder will assist with and develop the work of the Sustainability Regulation Observatory (SRO), an initiative of GSoS’s Theme 3 on Mobilising Political, Legal, and Governance Systems. The role combines assisting with research and policy analysis, events and convening, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination. They will contribute to the development and implementation of the SRO’s work, including administrative coordination with external partners. They will support policy-oriented analysis and engagement on regulatory strategies that promote sustainability, including through the development and dissemination of research, the publication of accessible policy briefs, the organisation and moderation of public events, and engagement with policymakers. They will contribute to a research programme examining the politics and political economy of the green backlash, persistent shortfalls in political ambition to remain within planetary boundaries, and the implications for sustainability regulation. They will help maximise the external impact and visibility of the SRO.


Qualifications and experience

* Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in environmental policy, energy policy, environmental economics, political science, political economy, economics, international relations or a related field.
* Demonstrated knowledge relevant to at least one of the priority areas within this Theme of GSoS: (1) protection of nature and biodiversity; (2) sustainable finance and business; (3) energy and climate change.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to produce high-quality policy analysis in a timely manner, including the ability to analyse and research complex ideas, and experience contributing as a project team member.
* Proficient IT skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to communicate academic research in writing and orally to a range of different audiences in a concise and compelling manner.
