Join Our Team as a Commercial & Business Development Executive Director!

BD Group is entering an exciting new chapter — and we’re looking for a visionary, commercially‑driven Executive Director to help shape our future. If you’re an influential leader with a passion for growth, transformation, and delivering meaningful impact for communities, this is your opportunity to make a defining contribution.

This is a pivotal role at the heart of our organisation, partnering closely with the Chief Executive and Board to drive commercial excellence, strengthen our traded services, and unlock long‑term sustainable growth.



Responsibilities include:


Strategic & P&L Leadership

* Setting and delivering a 5‑year commercial and business development strategy aligned to Group objectives.

* Stabilising financial performance while driving revenue growth, margin improvement, and cost efficiency.

* Leading portfolio and customer profitability analysis to optimise service mix and pricing.

* Establishing clear KPIs and performance rhythms across win rates, renewals, gross margin, WIP, variation capture, and commercial risk.


Commercial Transformation

* Designing and leading the organisation’s commercial transformation strategy.

* Embedding new commercial models, processes, and capabilities across the business.

* Driving cross‑functional change and ensuring disciplined execution of commercial priorities.

* Influencing senior stakeholders and partners to secure buy‑in and long‑term momentum.


Pricing & Revenue Management

* Setting the long‑range commercial vision for service lines and revenue models.

* Championing a data‑driven commercial culture using forecasting, insight, and scenario modelling.

* Owning pricing strategy, rate cards, cost models, and margin guardrails.

* Strengthening controls around variations, out‑of‑scope works, supplier management, and change orders.


Contracting, Partnerships & Commercial Governance

* Leading high‑value negotiations for new business, renewals, and extensions.

* Building strategic partnerships that enhance growth and service capability.

* Ensuring seamless bid‑to‑delivery transitions with clear baselines for scope, KPIs, and financial commitments.

* Embedding robust commercial governance, revenue recognition, change control, and early‑risk escalation.

* Chairing strategic contract reviews and supporting operational turnaround of underperforming contracts.


Traded Services & Business Development

* Defining compelling value propositions and win strategies to strengthen market position.

* Providing executive leadership to bid teams to ensure commercially robust, risk‑managed proposals.

* Setting strategic direction for LEUK and Soft FM growth.

* Maintaining a forward‑looking pipeline with clear forecasting of value, probability, and timing.

* Expanding traded services to diversify revenue and strengthen the commercial portfolio.

* Building senior‑level client relationships to shape future demand and secure long‑term growth.

* Embedding social value commitments across commercial strategies and contracts.


Risk, Governance & Compliance

* Overseeing the organisation’s commercial risk landscape and maintaining a dynamic risk register.

* Ensuring compliance with public‑sector procurement rules, statutory requirements, and internal governance.

* Strengthening cash discipline through rigorous controls on PO compliance, billing, accruals, and debt recovery.



What We’re Looking For:


Qualifications & Experience

* Degree or equivalent professional experience.

* Professional qualifications (CIPS, IACCM/WorldCC, MBA, programme management) desirable.

* Evidence of ongoing professional development in commercial leadership or transformation.

* Right to work in the UK and satisfactory background checks.


Executive Leadership & Strategic Influence

* Proven track record of delivering revenue growth and margin expansion.

* Experience partnering with Executive, Finance, Operations, and Transformation leaders.

* Strong Board‑level stakeholder engagement and external representation experience.

* Ability to deputise for the Chief Executive when required.


Operational & Commercial Expertise

* Strategic ownership of pricing, cost modelling, and commercial frameworks.

* Hands‑on leadership of bids, tenders, and high‑value contract negotiations.

* Strong financial acumen across P&L, cash flow, WIP, accruals, and revenue recognition.

* Experience shaping commercial operating models and digital enablement (e.g., CPQ, CLM).


Governance, Risk & Compliance

* Experience leading complex transformation programmes with robust governance.

* Strong understanding of public‑sector procurement and compliance frameworks.

* Expertise in commercial contract drafting and in‑life contract management.


Leadership, Culture & Continuous Improvement

* Proven leadership of multidisciplinary commercial teams.

* Ability to embed commercial discipline, continuous improvement, and benefits realisation.

* Data‑led decision‑maker with a focus on pace, clarity, and measurable outcomes.

* Resilient, inspiring leader able to guide teams through change.


Stakeholder Engagement

* Skilled at cultivating senior‑level client relationships and shaping future demand.

* Collaborative, trusted partner who builds strong cross‑functional relationships.

* Experience in housing, facilities management, property services, or public‑sector partnerships (desirable).

* Committed to ethical practice, transparency, and upholding the highest standards of conduct.



Working Arrangements

* Full‑time, permanent

* Hybrid working, with office attendance as required

* Senior leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Executive
