The Museum champions aerospace design and manufacturing from the perspective of those who were part of it. The Museum has STEM learning at its heart and aims to inspire, entertain and inform present and future generations through their understanding of, and engagement with, the stories and collections of Bristol’s aerospace industry – past, present and future. It is home to the last Concorde ever built and the last to fly when it returned to its birthplace at Filton.
Job purpose
This is an exciting opportunity to join to develop within one of the UK’s leading visitor attractions.
As Maintenance Technician you will be responsible for maintenance tasks across a large museum site consisting of 3 x operational buildings and an overall footprint of 38,000m2. You will work as part of a busy team which includes Security Officers, IT Technicians and onsite contracted cleaners.
You will undertake a wide range of reactive and planned maintenance tasks such as; plumbing, carpentry, repairs to building fabric, painting, grounds maintenance, emergency light testing, fire alarm testing, fire door inspections and much more.
You will play an important role in ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our staff, volunteers and visitors.
You will be responsible for supervising visiting contractors, volunteers and work experience trainees, Ensuring they follow the museum Health and Safety rules.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Ensure site is well presented and kept to the highest standard.
* Carry out general maintenance repairs including but not limited to; plumbing, carpentry, building fabric, painting, grounds maintenance, lighting replacements.
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance including but not limited to – fire alarm testing, weekly flushing, emergency light testing, fire door inspections, path clearing/gritting.
* Ensure plant rooms are kept in good condition and checked daily.
* Carry out regular site H&S Inspections and report any issues to the Facilities Manager.
* Investigate, diagnose and resolve any faults that may occur to plant and equipment on site.
Other responsibilities
* Assist with general portering throughout museum
* Ensure regular utility readings are taken for Gas, Electric and Water services.
Essential Qualifcations
* Worked in a similar multi skilled role.
* Worked in a similar customer facing environment.
* Well-presented and able to interact with, or assist, visitors in a positive fashion when required.
* Experience in coordinating contractors.
Deseribable Qualifactions
* Recognised and relevant maintenance trade qualifications.
* IOSH Working Safely Certificate.
* PAT Testing Qualification.
* PASMA Certificated. IPAF Certificated.
* Forklift Licenced. First Aid Trained.
Essential skills and knowledge
* Able to demonstrate a good working knowledge and understanding of a range of trades.
* Knowledge of workplace Health and Safety regulations.
* Effective time management.
* Proven ability to work to tight deadlines.
* A flexible “can do” approach to problems.
Desirable skills and knowledge
* Plumbing, carpentry, building fabric, painting and decorating skills.
* Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS).
* Understanding of Fire Safety, Legionella, COSHH and Asbestos regulations.
