Length of employment: 2 Years Job Summary: DCMS is responsible for 42 Public Bodies - organisations set up to deliver government functions at arm's-length, with independent boards. These are high profile organisations, ranging from Museums & Galleries such as the V&A, Tate and the British Museum to media and creative industries such as the BBC and the BFI, and sports organisations including UK Sport and Sport England. We're also responsible for regulators including the Gambling Commission and the Charity Commission and advisory bodies including the Treasure Valuation Committee. The Appointments Team manages more than 400 public appointments for these public bodies. The Government is keen to increase the diversity of these appointments by drawing on the wealth of skills, experience and abilities that can be found across the UK. The team works with Ministers, Cabinet Office, No10, public bodies themselves and Senior Leaders across DCMS to ensure a diverse range of talented people are appointed to our Boards, in order for these organisations to deliver for the public up and down the country. Job Description: We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive individual to join the Public Appointments Talent and Outreach team which aims to increase the appointment of talented individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and experience. This area of work is a priority for DCMS Ministers and will require excellent stakeholder management, organisational and communication skills. It will involve contributing to the delivery of an effective talent and outreach strategy to improve the diversity of our Public Body Boards in line with Ministerial and Cabinet Office priorities. Tasks may include developing comms across government and externally, ensuring effective diversity data collection and managing lists of potential candidates. The role holder will also be responsible for elements of the department's Diversity & Inclusion portfolio, such as helping ensure that we are meeting our obligations under the Public Sector Equality Duty and coordinating briefings for Ministers on relevant subjects. It is a fast paced role, which will involve building networks and managing your time carefully. You will be part of a supportive and collaborative wider team helping to drive forward the Department's strategic priorities. Essential Requirements: Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise their own workload and that of others to meet changing priorities Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, in an environment with multiple and at times conflicting priorities Strong communication skills, both in verbal and written formats, including when under tight time pressure Ability to build and manage a broad network of stakeholder relationships A proactive approach to improving the service delivered to our key stakeholders and customers Desirable Skills: Experience of working in public appointments within a regulated environment or working with public bodies Experience of working on diversity, inclusion or talent management We are running an information session where prospective applicants can find out more about the role. Further Information If the vacancy is offered as FTA/Loan, existing Civil Servants must join on a Loan basis only. Prior agreement to be released on loan must be obtained before commencing the application process. In the case of Civil Servants, the terms of the loan will be agreed between the home and host department and the Civil Servant. This includes grade on return. This role is full time only.
