AI Engineer – AI & Innovation
Reports to: AI Lead
Role summary
As an AI Engineer within the M&G Life AI & Innovation team, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying AI solutions that support our digital transformation and business growth. Working closely with the AI Lead and the AI & Innovation Business Analyst, you will translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, champion responsible AI practices, and help deliver measurable business value. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team driving innovation and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Responsibilities
AI Solution Delivery:
* Take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of AI solutions, from opportunity identification and requirements gathering (in partnership with the Business Analyst) through design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing monitoring
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Marketing, IT, Sales, Distribution, Customer Service) to ensure solutions meet business needs and strategic objectives
Technical Excellence:
* Apply best practices in AI development, including robust testing, version control, and responsible AI implementation
* Ensure all solutions comply with data governance, privacy, and ethical standards, working with the Business Analyst and AI Lead to uphold regulatory requirements
Business Value Measurement:
* Build solutions that drive efficiency, unlock insights, and create measurable business impact
* Support the definition and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives and key results (OKRs) for AI projects, in collaboration with the Business Analyst
Change Management & Adoption:
* Champion the adoption of new AI solutions across the business, supporting training and transition activities to maximise user engagement and business impact
* Facilitate change management and ensure successful implementation in partnership with the Business Analyst
Continuous Improvement:
* Contribute to a culture of experimentation, continuous improvement, and learning within the AI & Innovation team
* Share knowledge and best practices across roles to foster team development
Production Support:
* Monitor AI solutions in production, analyse performance, and investigate root causes of issues to ensure ongoing reliability and effectiveness
Required Skills & Competencies
* Proven experience delivering AI and innovation projects in a business context
* Strong technical background in Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI (including LLMs, agentic AI, and decision intelligence systems)
* Proficiency in Python and experience with platforms such as Databricks, OpenAI, Github and Copilot Studio
* Experience with MLOps, cloud deployment (AWS/Azure), and model evaluation/selection
* Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
* Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
* Experience in Life or Financial Services.
* Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies and service design.
* Familiarity with AI ethics, regulatory requirements, and responsible AI practices
