Job Description: Outreach Youth Worker / TA
Prospero Teaching is working with a Pupil Referral Unit in Huddersfield that caters to students with additional needs and mental health issues.
This is an outreach role, primarily involving community-based work to reach students who are the hardest to engage in traditional settings.
About the Pupils
* Age range: 5-11 years (KS1/2) and secondary students, all with EHCP plans and additional needs.
* Many have experienced trauma, neglect, or chaotic home environments.
Your Role
Build connections with young people, acting as a mentor and role model. You should have a strong background as a TA or tutor with students from PRUs or SEMH schools. You must also have access to a car for community visits.
The role involves developing strong relationships with pupils, utilizing mentoring skills akin to sports coaching, drama, or counselling, to help students engage with education both in and out of the classroom. Support will be provided on a vocational basis as well.
Candidate Requirements
* Experience mentoring children and young adults, especially in SEMH or PRU settings.
* Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or higher preferred.
* GCSE Maths and English, computer literate.
* Must have the right to work in the UK, an enhanced child DBS registered with the update service or willingness to obtain one, and two recent professional child-related references.
