Job description
Prospero Teaching is looking for a passionate, experienced and qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support the learning of pupils in one of our inspirational PRU’s in Billingham to start ASAP on a full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a leading role in the Learning Support Department and build positive relationships with pupils to have a long-term, positive impact on their lives, progress and development.
About the School:
1. The role is based in an inspirational Pupil Referral Unit in Billingham.
2. The School supports pupils across the Secondary School age range (11-18) who have been temporarily excluded from mainstream School.
3. The School has an outstanding supportive culture and Leadership Team, where staff work as a Team within classrooms to provide high standards of support to pupils.
Pay, Hours and Contract:
4. Pay – Between £90-130 per day DOE
5. Hours –
6. Contract – Full-time until the end of the Academic Year in July 2025. Temporary Contract.
7. Start Date – ASAP
8. Location – Billingham
About the HLTA Role:
9. The role will involve supporting pupils who have been temporarily excluded from mainstream School. As such, the role will involve supporting pupils Who display challenging behaviour.
10. A big part of the role, therefore, will be to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils to help manage their behaviour in a consistent and positive manner.
11. The role will also involve some planning and delivery of learning activities to pupils in small groups.
12. The role will involve supporting pupils on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups. The different types of SEND that pupils have may include ASD and DHD of varying levels
13. A key part of the role will also be to develop an understanding of the different needs and learning styles of different pupils within the classroom, working closely alongside Class Teachers and colleagues to establish this.
Experience/Qualifications and Requirements:
14. A Supporting Teaching and Learning or HLTA Qualification
15. Experience of working with Children in Schools in the UK
16. Experience within an SEND School Setting (desired)
17. Experience of planning and delivering learning activities to small groups of pupils.
18. An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff.
19. A genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEND within an SEND School
20. Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
21. Provide two professional references that cover the last two years
