Job Summary
This position is for a Senior Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Engineer who will work a multi-year program on a United Kingdom nuclear infrastructure project. The role is part‑time telework, requiring at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project site. The engineer will support Engineering Managers and act as the technical representative for engineering activities, assisting in design, documentation, quality checks, procurement, and coordination of junior engineers.
Major Responsibilities
* Plan and conduct independent Electrical, Control and Instrumentation work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of relevant engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
* Execute Electrical, Control, Instrumentation and Telecoms deliverables according to requirements and design criteria, utilizing approved procedures, practices, and codes and standards.
* Create Electrical, Control, Instrumentation and Telecoms plans, specifications, and drawings to support facility designs to a RIBA 3 development.
* Support studies into the environmental impacts and sustainability of the proposed design and construction process.
* Coordinate Electrical, Control, Instrumentation and Telecoms efforts with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendors, contractors and other functional groups.
* Prepare, coordinate, and review designs, studies, reports, and proposals.
* Participate in 3D model reviews.
* Participate in safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP) and review compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
* Review and coordinate deliverables with other disciplines and suppliers during execution to ensure design intent is incorporated.
* Identify issues (risks and value improvement opportunities) and help clarify areas of complexity during all phases of architectural design work.
* Review and coordinate the deliverables of junior electrical control and instrumentation engineers.
* Support informal studies and technical briefings with customers, suppliers, and other departments and disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements
* A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automation / Controls / Instrumentation, Electro‑Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering (or related subject) from an accredited university or college.
* A minimum of 15 years’ progressive Electrical Control and Instrumentation Engineering experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Experience working in a nuclear or other highly regulated environment.
* Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in a project delivery environment.
* Chartership with the IET (or similar).
* Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, guides & procedures and codes relevant to electrical, control and instrumentation discipline.
* Thorough knowledge of electrical, control, instrumentation and telecoms discipline engineering techniques, engineering calculations and design of engineered systems.
* Prior experience in industrial process facility design preferred.
* Knowledge of control system verification to recognised standards, e.g. BS 61508.
* Ability to read and understand building drawings and schematics.
* Knowledge of the methods and techniques of CAD design.
* Knowledge of NavisWorks.
* Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
* Strong organisational skills.
* Relevant industrial experience; general nuclear experience a plus.
* Must be able to obtain an SC Clearance for access to the AWE Site.
Other
* The role will be based primarily at Aldermaston UK, with travel to Bechtel’s London office (near Covent Garden) possibly required. Flexibility in work locations includes three days per week at the project site and two days working from home or the Bechtel office, subject to change.
