Job Description
Electronics & Field Test Engineer – Robotics / Automation
Location: Cheshire
Employment Type: Full-Time
Industry: Robotics / Agricultural Automation / Industrial Automation
Role Overview:
We are looking for a hands-on Electronics & Field Test Engineer with a strong background in troubleshooting embedded hardware, low-level communication protocols, and robotic systems integration. This role plays a key part in validating the reliability, safety, and performance of our autonomous robotic systems—deployed in challenging environments such as livestock barns and industrial sites.
If you're passionate about electronics, field testing, and working on the cutting edge of agricultural automation, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
* Diagnose, isolate, and repair hardware and electronic faults in embedded robotic platforms.
* Conduct on-site testing, calibration, and validation of sensors, actuators, PCBs, and motor controllers.
* Interface with hardware via low-level communication protocols such as UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, and RS-485.
* Interpret circuit diagrams, schematics, and PCB layouts for effective debugging and repair.
* Flash firmware and perform debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools.
* Document test procedures and results; contribute to root-cause analysis for recurring hardware issues.
* Collaborate with software, firmware, and mechanical teams during integration and system bring-up.
* Support field deployments, including robot startup, diagnostics, and iterative performance testing.
* Use ROS/ROS2 tools (e.g., nodes, topics, diagnostics) to troubleshoot communication
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Strong background in electronics testing, fault diagnosis, and hardware troubleshooting.
* Proficiency with lab tools: multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, soldering equipment.
* Experience with low-level protocols (UART, CAN, SPI, I2C) and reading electronic datasheets.
* Working knowledge of ROS/ROS2, including basic navigation of nodes, topics, and TF trees.
* Ability to work independently in remote/agricultural environments with minimal supervision.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially under pressure during live system tests.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have:
* Familiarity with C/C++ or Python for scripting and microcontroller communication.
* Experience with embedded platforms (e.g., STM32, ESP32, Arduino).
* Understanding of EMC/ESD principles and safety standards in electronic systems.
* Prior experience working with robotic hardware (mobile robots, AGVs, automation systems).
Why Join Us?
* Be part of a pioneering team transforming agriculture and industry through intelligent robotics.
* Engage in hands-on work with cutting-edge embedded and robotic systems.
* Enjoy a collaborative and fast-paced work environment with real-world impact.
