Library Assistant Deliver core library services within one specialist area: Customer Service & Engagement, Acquisitions & Procurement, or Library Systems & Digital. Provide expert support to students, staff, and other users by developing strong knowledge of library resources, systems, and policies. Help users discover, access, and borrow learning resources, resolving any issues that arise. Core Responsibilities Provide first‑ or second‑line support on information resources, study skills, referencing (APA and others), and use of archives/special collections. Guide users on accessing subject resources for assignments and research. Ensure compliance with copyright, licensing, and data protection requirements. Support library programmes such as PAL and the Academic Skills Hub. Record and analyse service statistics; supervise volunteers when required. Deliver excellent customer service and suggest improvements to enhance user experience. Handle confidential matters appropriately and support wider Academic Services when needed. Specialist AreasCustomer Service & Engagement Deliver front‑line support across campus libraries (in person, phone, online chat). Manage membership services. Run engagement activities: tours, feedback collection, events, marketing, and social media. Advise users on library rules, overdue/lost items, and appropriate use of facilities. Provide basic IT support (password resets, Wi‑Fi, printing, device access). Act as first point of contact for incidents; support fire warden and first‑aid duties. Maintain safe and functional study spaces, respond to alarms, and report H&S issues. Acquisitions & Procurement Manage stock, track orders, and process invoices. Support procurement operations, including inter‑library loans. Handle purchasing of print and digital resources, liaising with suppliers and maintaining accurate records. Carry out bibliographic checking and copy cataloguing. Library Systems & Digital Improve access to e‑resources via reading lists, discovery tools, and the Library Management System (WMS). Maintain data accuracy, authentication systems, and support stock management projects. Support digital platforms such as WMS, LibGuides, BrightSpace, Talis Aspire, LibKey, and security systems. Troubleshoot technical issues and liaise with software vendors. Contribute to system upgrades and digital development projects. This is a part-time temporary assignment based on the Campus till Easter - £15.33 an hour - 12pm to 5pm - 25 hours a week.
