Business
Our client is a global leader in the development and manufacture of inorganic speciality chemicals and advanced materials that form critical inputs to products across industries such as healthcare, electronics, automotive, construction, energy, and consumer goods. The company leverages in-house R&D capabilities and extensive experience in chemical formulation. Key product segments include flame retardants, thermal stabilisers, absorbents, and catalysts. The business currently generates £60M in turnover, with strong growth, attractive profitability, and high cash flow.
Situation
Following investment by a reputable PE fund known for top decile returns, there is a need to recruit a high-calibre PE FD to support the company's next phase of organic and inorganic growth. The business is a carve-out from a large PLC and has historically operated independently, but now requires establishing standalone Finance, HR, and IT functions. The company has lacked senior finance leadership, presenting an opportunity for the right candidate to add significant value. The goal is to recruit a strategic, driven FD with a hands-on approach to scale the business towards exit.
Role
The successful candidate will act as a business partner to the MD, overseeing all financial matters and leading the finance team, including recruitment and development. Responsibilities include strategic input, commercial analysis, budgeting, financial controls, cost management, forecasting, and KPI monitoring. The FD will manage the carve-out process, participate in M&A, integrations, business planning, and provide commercial insights on capex, sales, and marketing initiatives. Developing financial models to optimize efficiency during growth is essential. The FD will join the board alongside the PE fund and management team, contributing to board reports and managing external banking and PE relationships transparently.
Candidate Profile
We seek an ambitious, energetic, qualified accountant with experience as a standalone FD/CFO or senior finance leader within a £5m+ EBITDA PE-backed or leveraged industrial manufacturing business, or as a FD of a division within a large corporation with P&L and Balance Sheet responsibility. Proven track record in KPI development, financial reporting, and operational understanding is required. The candidate should be analytical, proactive, and capable of adding value while challenging colleagues constructively. Strong leadership, team-building skills, and the ability to work effectively at all levels are essential. Experience with PE-backed businesses and carve-outs is highly desirable.
There is an attractive equity incentive package offering significant upside upon successful business growth and exit.
Flexibility regarding working in the office five days a week is preferred, with some potential for remote work for the right candidate.
