Electrical Field Service Engineer
General Dynamics Land Systems is looking for a full‑time Electrical Field Service Engineer to join our Engineering Team at one of our UK sites (Merthyr Tydfil, Bovington or Tidworth). The successful candidate will earn a favourable salary of £36 000 to £45 000 based on experience and potential.
Responsibilities
* Act as the technical focal point for all vehicle/Turret electronic matters including modifications, Post Design Services (PDS), technical training and defect reporting.
* Assess battle damage, warranty faults and recommend rectification procedures.
* Provide training to new team members and mentor MOD AJAX crew personnel and Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).
* Collaborate with design/project engineers to develop optimised engineered solutions, give feedback on technical issues and support System and Software Engineers in designing technical resolutions.
* Carry out all levels of repairs on AJAX variants (up to Level 4) and perform upgrades or modifications as required.
* Perform business support administration (timesheets, procurement of equipment, stocktaking, data collection and reporting) using GDLS‑UK and MOD IT systems.
* Document, maintain and improve Work Instructions, including strip‑down, non‑destructive testing, etc.
* Work outside a 9‑to‑5 routine, including weekends, overseas deployments and potentially extended hours.
* Deploy for agreed periods in worldwide locations and pursue a personalised career development plan with regular progress reviews.
* Engage in professional training and development courses, both internal and external.

Qualifications
* Military Electronic Technician Class 1, NVQ and/or City & Guilds Level 3.
* City & Guilds Part 1 and Part 2 (Technicians) and Part 3 (Technicians).
* Experience in technical/electronic engineering or a related discipline.
* Armoured vehicle/Turret experience (e.g. Challenger, Warrior, CVR(T), AS90).
* Demonstrable knowledge of automotive/Turret analogue and digital systems, micro‑controllers and digital communications (including CANbus electrical systems).
* Highly customer‑focused with strong communication skills.
* IT literate with working knowledge of automotive diagnostic systems.
* Willingness to work away from home for protracted periods and in demanding locations.
* Ability to share knowledge within the team.
* Ability to achieve SC Clearance level.
Desirable
* In‑depth Armoured Fighting Vehicle experience.
* HND/HNC in a technical discipline.
* Previous CONDO experience.
* Member of a Professional Institution (e.g. IET, IMechE) with professional recognition.
* Full UK driving licence, including Category H.
* CANbus and Ethernet experience.
* Practical knowledge of JAMES for recording repair activities.
