Overview
Join our Biochemistry laboratory team as a laboratory assistant. The role involves working in a UKAS‑accredited medical laboratory, assisting Biomedical Scientists with receipt and processing of patient specimens, equipment set‑up and routine checks, and providing essential support to deliver accurate and timely patient care.
The post is full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, with training provided in all areas of the role.
Responsibilities
* Communicate effectively with clinical staff, laboratory staff and external clients regarding advice/clarification of test requests in a professional and approachable manner.
* Answer the telephone in a clear and concise manner, ensuring all results given & received are logged.
* Assist in effective verbal and written communication.
* Communicate, as appropriate, using information technology.
* Order stock from Main Stores to maintain adequate supplies of stock items and receive and monitor delivery of reagents, consumables in the department.
* Supply stock to Wards/Departments and GP practices as requested in a timely manner.
* Check that the correct specimen, collected under appropriate conditions, has been supplied for investigations requested.
* Perform checks on general laboratory equipment to ensure they are working within specification.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE standard, or equivalent.
* RSA II.
* NVQ2 Clinical Support.
Knowledge
* Experience of working with others.
* Basic IT skills.
* General appreciation of the importance of Health & Safety issues.
* Understanding of the need for confidentiality.
* Previous Laboratory Experience.
