Work Lyf Group are recruiting for a Technical Manager on behalf of a well-established SME specialising in kiln furniture and technical ceramics, supplying customers across the UK and worldwide.
The role involves supporting a wide range of industrial sectors, including traditional ceramics, EV battery production, automotive, aerospace, electronics, and more. You’ll join a small, collaborative team, applying materials science and engineering principles to develop solutions for diverse customer applications.
A two-year succession plan is in place, during which you will work closely with the current Technical Manager to gain in-depth knowledge of design processes, manufacturing and quality systems, product ranges, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the quality assurance system and liaise with partner companies and suppliers (including some overseas travel)
* Provide technical input for customer enquiries and match materials/products to application needs
* Investigate and respond to customer complaints, including material testing and site visits
* Produce manufacturing specifications for new products and support structural analysis work
* Collaborate with Marketing to develop technical content and promotional material
* Research new applications, materials, and product opportunities to expand the company knowledge base
Key Skills & Experience
* Experience in ceramics manufacturing or a similar industrial environment (essential)
* Understanding of mechanical and thermal properties of ceramics/engineering materials; testing experience desirable
* Ability to read technical drawings and basic structural design awareness
* Curious, proactive, and keen to learn
* Strong communication skills and willingness to share knowledge

Location: Office-based in Stoke-on-Trent, with some UK and overseas travel
Salary: Negotiable
