Job Description
The main duties and responsibilities of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer are outlined as follows:
* Reporting to the Design Manager.
* Part of a multi-disciplined team of engineers responsible to produce design deliverables for water, wastewater and process treatment plants.
* Responsible for assisting in all aspects of Electrical design from site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing.
* Production of procurement specifications for Electrical equipment; cable calculations and production of detailed design construction drawings.
* Project managing third party designs and providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams.
* Liaising with clients and subcontractors.
* Work as part of a team to support project delivery function, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
* Ensure Design, Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to.
* Monitoring design delivery performance and efficiency, adjusting and reacting as necessary to ensure targets are achieved and ensuring the MIDP is kept up to date.
* Produce Electrical design outputs as and when required.
* Ensure Glan Agua’s & the Clients’ Technical Requirements are met throughout the design.
* Conduct regular meetings with project delivery teams to allocate resources, monitor the plan and adjust as necessary in consultation with the project delivery teams.
* Monitor and update Design Change Control.
* Liaise between Mechanical and Civil & Structural Designers.
* Be involved in the growth and development of the company including expansion of the direct delivery model.
* Tasks include the development of business cases for onboarding staff, gap analysis of required resources, recruitment and structuring.
* Provide robust leadership and a sounding board for supporting site teams.
* Show an eagerness to learn and progress in your own career as well as the mentoring and training of more junior staff.
* Other duties as required from time to time.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
* Chartered or Incorporated member of the IET with extensive experience in water or wastewater, non-infrastructure, and infrastructure design.
* Knowledge of the Designer and Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015.
* Experience managing design quality control processes.
* Experience developing a programme and budget and monitoring progress against both.
* Able to communicate clearly and work effectively to lead a multidisciplinary team.
* Proven record in mentoring and developing staff in design.
* Experience working with Thames & Yorkshire Water’s electrical design standards documents an advantage but not essential.
* Provide mentorship to junior / graduate Electrical design engineers.
* Strong team leader & decision maker with proven experience essential.
* Water and Wastewater design experience highly desirable.
* Commercial experience is desirable.
