Research Associate/Senior Research Associate (Bioinformatics / Cancer Genomics)
Position Overview
Join the Molecular Oncology Group, Discipline of Women’s Health at UNSW to work with Prof. Susan Ramus. The role focuses on identifying prognostic markers and developing tumour tests for ovarian cancer patients by analysing DNA copy number data from large‑scale shallow whole‑genome sequencing.

* Employment Type: Full‑time (35 hours/week)
* Duration: Fixed term until 31 December 2026 (possible extension, funding dependent)
* Remuneration: $91K – $150K base, depending on experience (plus 17% superannuation and leave loading)
* Work Rights: Visa sponsorship not available; candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia
* Location: Kensington, NSW
Key Responsibilities
* Identify prognostic markers and develop tumour tests to personalise treatment for ovarian cancer patients.
* Analyse DNA copy number data from large‑scale shallow whole‑genome sequencing.
* Conduct high‑quality academic research and produce independent outputs.
* Maintain detailed records and manage projects with minimal supervision.
* Present findings at conferences and contribute to publications.
Qualifications & Experience
* Level A: PhD in Genomics / Bioinformatics or related discipline, or equivalent experience and training.
* Competency in high‑dimensional bioinformatics data analysis, R, and bioinformatics pipelines.
* Experience in cancer genetics or genomics (advantage).
* Experience with supercomputers, GitHub, Conda, Python, and reproducible research documents such as RMarkdown (advantage).
* Strong organisational skills, prioritisation, time management and attention to detail.
* Track record of publications and conference presentations.
* Commitment to stay current with discipline knowledge and developments.
* Level B (additional): Minimum five years post‑doctoral research experience and demonstrated ability to develop novel research questions, coordinate collaborative projects, and show increasing trajectory of research excellence.
