Main duties of the job
To be an intrinsic part of the Practice team providing a comprehensive general practice service to the people of Morecambe. Responsibilities will reflect requirements of the NHS GP Contracts, and as such may be subject to change as services adapt. The post holder will manage a patient list and deal with a wide variety of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for the registered population of the town and temporary patients. The post-holder will help the Practice vision for happier, healthier people.

About Us
We are a large practice responsible for providing GP services to the population of Morecambe and Heysham (c55,000). We are based in 5 sites in the town and our scale means that we can support diverse career aspirations and opportunities across all teams. We maintain a smaller practice feel by promoting site-based working to develop relationships with the site team and patients. We work closely with our ICC and local hospice. Bay Medical Group is a friendly, welcoming practice aiming to improve our offer to both the local community and colleagues. We offer opportunities to work with our experienced GPs and clinicians and provide links with the local Trust, and Lancaster and Cumbria Universities.

Professional responsibilities
* To maintain full registration with the General Medical Council and with a recognised medical defence organisation approved by the partners.
* To maintain full registration as a GP on the North West Commissioning Region Performer List.
* To maintain accurate and contemporaneous records of activities both written and computerised; the practice uses a paperless approach and computer records form the main record of all interactions with patients.
* To promote good communications within the multi-disciplinary team.
* To maintain and update professional knowledge in line with Clinical Governance, Quality and Outcome Framework, current requirements to deliver services, the Practice Development Plan and your personal development plan.
* To participate in educational programmes within the practice.
* To participate in GP appraisal and revalidation.
* To maintain standards of conduct and dress to maintain public confidence.
* To maintain confidentiality in all areas at all times.
Clinical responsibilities
* To work as a doctor, responsible for running a full list proportionate to the number of sessions worked.
* To undertake a variety of duties including surgery face to face consultations, telephone and online consultations, visiting patients at home and participating in CAT (Clinical Assessment Team) processing of appointment requests.
* Provide clinical support to other team members.
* To assess, diagnose, treat and/or refer patients; make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
* Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
* Identify, assess and discuss patient problems with patients, relatives/carers and PHCT members; devise a management plan and monitor the outcome.
* Organise diagnostic investigations where appropriate.
* Prescribe according to local or national prescribing guidelines; issue computer-generated prescriptions (EPS preferred).
* Provide support for other accredited prescribers within the team.
* Contribute to meeting General Medical Services contract requirements and QOF targets.
* Refer to other NHS services where appropriate; provide counselling and health education.
* Participate in attainment of Practice, local and national targets.
* Undertake normal duties of a GP in primary care, including cover for partners and other salaried GPs when required.
Delivering a quality service
* Adhere to professional codes of conduct and relevant legislation (GMC, H&S at Work Act, Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records).
* Maintain accurate patient records and complete statutory and other paperwork for medico-legal and claims purposes.
* Be aware of data protection issues in a GP surgery and use technology to support management of care.
* Process data with accurate coding for monitoring and audit; prioritise and manage own workload to maintain quality.
* Deliver care according to NSF, NICE guidelines and evidence-based practice.
* Engage in self and peer review, benchmarking and audits; keep up to date with current evidence-based practice.
* Participate in research and audit cycles to evaluate quality and implement improvements.
* Collaborate with clinical teams to improve care in line with local and national policies.
* Provide cover for the partners and other salaried GPs when mutually agreed; support shared learning across the practice and wider organisation.
* Develop and implement policies and procedures; understand legal issues for vulnerable children and adults and follow local guidance.
* Participate in professional development review; training requirements monitored by yearly appraisal.
* Attend and participate in Significant Event Audits; collect data for audit purposes.
* Complete PMA reports for patients on your caseload; fees earned are paid to the practice and do not form part of remuneration.
