An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Medical Secretary to join the Cardiology Department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. This role is pivotal in enabling the Directorate to provide a high-quality, comprehensive, and professional administrative service to patients, relatives, carers, and other internal and external stakeholders.
You will be working on varied roles, but your main duties include the following:
1. Type patient letters relating to clinic appointments, test results, referrals, and discharge summaries from digital audio dictation, longhand, or verbal dictation. Aim to turn typing around within 48 hours.
2. Cover the medical secretaries' absences (sickness and annual leave), taking telephone messages and undertaking urgent typing and tasks for the consultant and team.
3. Assist medical secretaries in managing patients through their 18-week pathway. Validate pathways and amend them on Lorenzo as needed. Escalate any breaches to Line Managers.
4. Assist in managing in-patient waiting lists, ensuring adherence to Trust and National policies, and track patients through their 18-week pathway for inpatient stays.
5. Manage patient investigations using Trust computer systems.
The Cardiothoracic Service is based at both Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital, serving South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Lincolnshire, and North Nottinghamshire, with a population of over 2.2 million. The department aims to improve the quality of care for cardiology patients, enabling them to live productive and independent lives.
You will be working for an organization that values and respects its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors, offering excellent benefits, including commitments to professional development and policies supporting work-life balance.
