Job summary

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will work closely with patients, their families, and carers. You will be essential in ensuring those who use our mental health services have a positive experience and work as part of our dedicated teams comprising nurses, healthcare support workers, activity coordinators, social workers, occupational therapists, and psychiatrists.

* Serenity Path Hospital (formerly Leigh House), an acute adolescent psychiatric service providing inpatient treatment for young people aged 13 to 18 years.
Candidates must be flexible across all shift patterns, including weekdays, weekends, nights, and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job
Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication skills to engage, persuade, or negotiate with clients with complex and sometimes challenging needs, ensuring they receive appropriate care and support. On our mental health inpatient wards, you will be involved in direct patient care while maintaining patients' privacy and dignity. You will work alongside registered nurses to provide nursing care, assist patients (both male and female) with daily living tasks, including personal care and other activities. Daily tasks may include:
* Supporting the nursing and wider team with clinical tasks
* Participating in the induction and training of Band 2 HCSWs on the ward
* Providing clinical supervision to junior staff
* Conducting therapeutic observations
* Monitoring physical health
* Providing emotional support to patients
* One-to-one observation for high-risk patients
* Ensuring the ward environment is clean and safe to prevent infection and falls
* Recording changes in patient conditions and escalating to the nursing team

* Level 3 Diploma/NVQ in Health and Social Care or equivalent
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure to the DBS will be required to check for any criminal convictions.
