THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced and confident
People Operations Manager
to join our People team and take ownership of HR delivery across our UK and US teams – spanning in-store retail, head office, and some international operations. You will be the go-to HR contact for around 125 employees, working closely with line managers to drive people initiatives, manage employee relations cases from start to finish, and support team and leadership development.
This is a
mid-level, hands-on generalist role
that requires someone comfortable managing all aspects of the employee lifecycle, with a strong focus on ER casework, team development, and ensuring close alignment and inclusion between Head Office and retail teams.
You'll work closely with the Head of People & Culture, but be expected to manage most day-to-day HR matters independently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS (ER) – LEAD OWNERSHIP
* Manage all employee relations issues end-to-end with minimal supervision – including disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, performance management, absence, and conduct.
* Advise and coach managers to resolve issues promptly and fairly, ensuring compliance with UK employment law and internal policy.
* Conduct thorough and balanced investigations, prepare documentation, and lead formal hearings as needed.
* Maintain detailed, confidential records of all ER matters.
LINE MANAGER SUPPORT & COACHING
* Build trusted relationships with store managers and head office leaders, acting as a proactive advisor on all people matters.
* Support managers with day-to-day HR queries, policy application, and team dynamics.
* Coach and develop managers to build their confidence and capability in people management.
BRIDGING HEAD OFFICE AND RETAIL (UK x US)
* Facilitate clear communication and collaboration between Head Office and retail teams to ensure consistent HR practices and alignment.
* Ensure retail staff UK and US are kept informed and involved in key company initiatives, policies, and updates.
* Identify and address gaps or issues between sites to maintain a consistent and inclusive employee experience across all locations.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT & L&D
* Design, implement Learning and Development Training Programmes across the business including internal and retail
* Guide employees through their development journey, supporting their growth and career progression
* Deliver and/or coordinate training around core HR topics (e.g., performance management, feedback, people leadership)
* Support wider L&D and engagement initiatives in collaboration with the Head of People & Culture.
GENERALIST HR SUPPORT
* Ensure up-to-date and legally compliant HR policies, contracts, and documentation.
* Provide support to the US team on HR processes and coordination, liaising with external advisors where needed.
PROJECTS & CULTURE
* Lead and support People projects such as engagement surveys, DEI, policy updates, and wellbeing campaigns.
* Lead key initiatives to improve the employee experience.
* Be a visible champion of our culture and values, supporting internal communications and culture-building efforts.
* Collaborate with the wider People & Culture team to align HR practices with business goals.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
* Suit someone who wants to be part of a hardworking, collaborative and high energy team. We want someone who cares about their work and colleagues and loves what they do
* Proven generalist HR experience, ideally within a fast-paced environment.
* Strong, hands-on experience managing complex ER cases independently.
* Confident coaching and supporting managers at various levels.
* Solid working knowledge of UK employment law; some exposure to US HR practices is a plus but not essential.
* Practical experience with L&D, policy writing, and HR systems.
* Proactive, solutions-focused, and resilient – able to handle sensitive situations with discretion.
