Clinical Vascular Scientist

We are looking for a full‑time motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Vascular Scientist to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Trust. We are a very friendly team who work closely together - the team is a mix of Clinical Vascular Scientists (6), Practitioners (2) and Trainees (1) all lead by our experienced Head of Department. Administration and clinical support is provided by three Vascular Science Associates. University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Trust comprise of two hospital sites – Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital – all team members work across both sites on a rota basis.
The post holder will be expected to independently perform and report on a full range of diagnostic vascular ultrasound investigations and exercise a high degree of autonomous working taking responsibility for management of workload on a daily basis.

Main duties of the job
* Independently and autonomously perform a full range of vascular diagnostic and surveillance ultrasound duplex scans including carotid, upper and lower limb arterial and venous, true and false aneurysms, temporal artery, thoracic outlet, bypass graft and stent surveillance, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), fistula scans
* Perform ankle‑brachial pressure index (ABPI) and toe‑brachial index (TBI) assessment
* Interpret and report results using specialised vascular knowledge, producing an overall diagnosis and identify and act on incidental and/or urgent findings appropriately
* Lead the day‑to‑day clinical running of the department; triaging and prioritising workload, supervising junior staff, overseeing worklists/appointment diary and liaising with colleagues from multidisciplinary teams
* Provide direct teaching, training and supervision to STP and vascular practitioner trainees

Qualifications and Training
* Science Degree (BSc level or higher
* Accredited Vascular Scientist (AVS) with The College and Society for Clinical Vascular Science or NSHCS STP Certificate of Completion with HCPC registration as a Vascular Clinical Scientist or equivalence in progress
Job spec
* oAbility to independently perform, interpret, report and teach a full range of vascular ultrasound examinations
* oTheoretical knowledge of vascular diseases, haemodynamics and the physics of ultrasound
* oUnderstand the potential hazards and bio‑effects of ultrasound and aware of the national and international ultrasound scan safety guidelines and able to operate safely
* oExperience in training and supporting others including STP trainees and other healthcare professionals
* oShow care, compassion and respect towards patients and colleagues
* oBe a team player – willing to help others, adaptable, good listening skills, respect the opinions of others, embrace change and support others
* oHave a proactive approach to work – identify areas of change and being adaptable, take an active role in daily running’s and departmental decision making
* oDemonstrate skills in independent problem solving and dealing with complex clinical issues
* oProficient in IT skills to be able to electronically report, record and analyse data
