About the role

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable adults through effective financial support?

The Adult Social Care Financial Support Service is looking to appoint a Financial Assessment and Welfare Benefits Visiting Officer on a fixed‑term basis (initially 9 months). This is an exciting time to join the team following a recent restructure to expand the services provided to the Adult Social Care community of Bury.

The Financial Assessment and Benefits Service is responsible for conducting financial assessments with people eligible to receive Adult Social Care Services to determine the contribution required towards the cost of their care, maximize their income, and support their financial queries.

Effective service delivery is essential for enabling access to care and support services without financial strain. The team determines eligibility for funding, ensuring necessary support is provided in a fair and sustainable manner.

We are looking to appoint a self‑motivated and diligent visiting officer who will liaise with customers to identify benefits they may be entitled to, support them in the claim process, and provide wider support to the team.

Our ideal candidate will work independently with our customer base, be confident in liaising with various stakeholders, and thrive in a collaborative environment, sharing knowledge and contributing to meet overall team objectives.

Knowledge of UK welfare benefits, the Care Act, Adult Social Care policy, and Bury ASC systems and procedures is advantageous.

Working Hours and Location

Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based on the usual business week. Flexitime and agile working are available. The role involves face‑to‑face support with customers and mandatory office time at 6 Knowsley Place for team meetings.

About Bury

The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to share this commitment. Appointment may be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check. In line with safer recruitment, applicants should provide full employment history and reasons for any gaps. Successful candidates will be asked to provide relevant references for the past ten years; character references will not be accepted.

Please note we are unable to support with sponsorship at this time.
