General Foreman - Liverpool
If you're a General Foreman who takes pride in running safe, well-organised sites and leading teams by example, this role gives you the responsibility and recognition to do just that. You'll be working on a major highways framework in Liverpool, playing a key role in day-to-day site delivery, productivity, and safety performance.
About the business you'll be joining
You'll be joining an established contractor delivering significant highways works on a long-term Liverpool framework. The culture is practical, collaborative, and safety-led, with strong support from engineering, commercial, and project management teams.
What you'll be doing day to day as General Foreman
Reporting to the Site Manager or Project Manager, as General Foreman you will lead and coordinate site activities to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, and to the required quality. You will be doing things such as:
·Supervising and coordinating direct labour, subcontractors, and plant on site.
·Planning daily and weekly activities to maintain productivity and programme.
·Leading by example on health, safety, and environmental standards at all times.
·Ensuring works are carried out in accordance with drawings, specifications, and method statements.
·Managing permits, briefings, and site inductions where required.
·Monitoring quality and carrying out inspections to ensure standards are met.
·Identifying and resolving site issues quickly, escalating where necessary.
·Liaising closely with Engineers, Site Managers, and Project Managers to coordinate delivery.
·Supporting the development and performance of site operatives and supervisors.
·Maintaining accurate site records, diaries, and progress updates.
What you'll need to bring
To succeed as a General Foreman, you'll bring strong highways experience and the confidence to lead site teams effectively. You'll need:
·Proven experience in a General Foreman or Senior Supervisor role within highways or civil engineering.
·Strong understanding of highways construction methods and site operations.
·A consistent, hands-on approach to health, safety, and environmental management.
·The ability to plan work effectively and manage multiple activities on site.
·Good communication skills and the ability to motivate site teams and subcontractors.
·Relevant site qualifications such as SMSTS or SSSTS (or working towards).
·A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivery.
