Critical part of the work we do is the daily upkeep of the rail network. As an Operative, you'll work in a small team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.

About the role (External)
Operatives specialise in various disciplines, but for this role, you'll become a specialist in Works Delivery Signalling. Operatives work outdoors in all conditions, at all times of the year, day or night. You'll be involved in manual work, transporting kit across challenging terrain. Safety, respect for rules, and teamwork are critical, especially when working near moving trains at high speeds.
You matter to your team: You show up first, leave last, check and prepare the van and equipment, and drive the team between sites. You'll support maintenance and provide lookout duties for safety.
You matter to us: Your commitment to self-development and continuous learning is important. We will provide training to develop your technical and non-technical skills. This structured training will give you the skills and confidence for a rewarding career in rail, with clear progression pathways.
Your skills matter: You don't need prior rail experience but must demonstrate how your transferable skills meet the following:
