Overall Purpose of Role:

As Workshop Supervisor, you will be responsible for developing the engineering team to complete tasks efficiently, on time, and in accordance with the highest QA standards. This includes ensuring strict adherence to all Oceanscan procedures. You will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing equipment repair and servicing. You will serve as the primary point of contact for ongoing repairs, client recharges, and the servicing of external equipment. Furthermore, you will be expected to promote a culture of in-house repair and maintenance wherever feasible, aiming to reduce Oceanscan’s dependency on third‑party service providers.

You will support both the Workshop Manager and Group Technical Manager in reviewing and developing workshop testing processes and procedures. Additionally, you will take on the day‑to‑day management of the workshop, particularly in the absence of the Workshop Manager. You will also play an active role in the development of the team by supporting the training of staff and sharing technical knowledge to help build internal capability and expertise.

Relationships:

Reports to Workshop Manager with indirect reporting to the Group Technical Manager. Liaises with all staff and 3rd parties.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

The responsibilities of the postholder will include but not be limited to the following:

General Workshop Supervisor Tasks:

* Perform maintenance, servicing, and calibration of NDT instrumentation in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and relevant industry standards.
* Maintain, service, and test survey equipment, where applicable, to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
* Manage the maintenance, calibration, and certification of all workshop equipment, including calibration test instruments.
* Ensure all workshop operations are carried out in full compliance with company employment terms, quality assurance protocols, and Health & Safety policies.
* Perform final QA checks on equipment and associated documentation (including check sheets and picking lists) pre‑ and post‑hire, ensuring accuracy and completeness before handover to administrative staff.
* Prioritise and process all work orders effectively to meet or exceed customer expectations.
* Conduct regular reviews of customer requirements to ensure a consistent and high level of satisfaction.
* Collaborate closely with the sales team to resolve customer issues, including complaints and areas of dissatisfaction, in a timely and professional manner.
* Maintain adequate stock levels of spare parts and consumables within the Workshop and Calibration Laboratory.
* Ensure all technical documentation, specifications, and procedures are current and compliant by liaising with governing bodies and equipment manufacturers.
* Support the Senior Engineers in maintaining appropriate staff conduct and discipline within the workshop.
* Identify and implement staff training needs based on both individual development goals and company requirements.
* Work collaboratively with the Workshop Manager and Technical Manager to conduct regular audits on engineering staff, ensuring compliance with quality standards and procedures.
* Represent the workshop team in all relevant management meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Comply at all times with the Company’s Quality and Health & Safety at Work policies.
* Lead by example and foster a proactive, positive Health & Safety culture within the workshop, encouraging best practices among all team members.
* Lead toolbox talks to promote safety awareness and address relevant workshop topics.
* Willingness to undertake other duties such as occasional overtime, stock take, offsite calibrations and remote based support to customers.
* Willingness to support both remotely and in person all other Oceanscan facilities.

Repairs Specific Workshop Supervisor Tasks

* Delegate daily tasks to engineering staff, focusing on equipment repairs and the testing of incoming goods.
* Ensure timely communication with internal teams to guarantee clients are informed of any equipment damage within five working days.
* Maintain accurate records of all faulty equipment movements between Oceanscan and external manufacturers.
* Coordinate with admin staff by forwarding reports and cost details for client recharges.
* Raise and forward purchase orders for equipment repairs as required.
* Complete, document, and record asset disposal requests for equipment deemed beyond economical repair.
* Act as the main liaison between suppliers, manufacturers, and customers to ensure smooth communication and issue resolution.
* Perform electronic testing, fault finding, and full system testing of equipment to identify and resolve issues.
* Carry out electronic repairs, including minor PCB work and cable re‑terminations, to support in‑house servicing capabilities.

Experience and Qualifications:

Desirable experience and qualifications are as follows:

* HNC / HND or equivalent in a relevant area; Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Engineering Systems.
* Experience supervising a small team is ideal.
* Experience of PCB investigation, soldering, crimping, mechanical assembly, repairs and maintenance.
* Good experience of testing/operating equipment in Oceanscan rental pool.
* Experience of working in an organisation across multiple locations, including offshore.
* Experience supervising a team in a fast paced rental environment is ideal.
* Solid experience of Microsoft Office suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and in house stock system.

Skills and Knowledge:

* Knowledge of a full range of Oceanscan’s equipment.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills.
* Exceptional attention to detail with good analytical skills.
* Strong problem solving skills.
* Strong communication skills; e.g. report writing, customer service.
* Oceanscan’s compliance processes, including but not restricted to Customs/Export Control/Import/Anti-Bribery/QA.

* Ideally have a clean driving license and the ability to travel to global companies if necessary.
* Maintain reasonable levels of fitness to carry out the role and actively participate in medicals.
