Overview
Locum Consultant Dermatologist at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post is a fixed term 12‑month locum contract.
Position and Department
The Trust invites applications to join the current dermatology team of 12 Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist. The department provides a full range of general dermatology services and has three dedicated dermatological theatres with facilities for PDT, phototherapy and patch testing, plus day case theatres for complex surgical procedures. The department is supported by specialist nurses in dermatological surgery, skin cancer clinics and chronic inflammatory disease management, and by 2 Specialty Registrars, 3 GPVTS Trainees, a physician’s associate and two skin cancer nurses. There are close links with Maxillofacial surgery, Plastic surgery and Rheumatology. The dermatology team is active in research with ongoing industry‑sponsored and in‑house projects supported by research nurses. While this is a general dermatology post, successful candidates will be encouraged to develop a special interest. The post will include undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and participation in the daytime on‑call rota.
The post will primarily be based at York Hospital with one peripheral site to cover; flexible job plans can be discussed and may include working at one of our peripheral hospitals. We currently cover dermatology services in York, Scarborough, Malton and Selby, and to support our services consultants are expected to work cross‑site.
Responsibilities
* Provide general dermatology care as part of the dermatology team and contribute to the daytime on‑call rota (as supported by two specialty trainees).
* Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Engage in research activities and collaborate with research nurses on ongoing projects.
* Develop and contribute to a special interest area to support the department.
* Work across sites as required to cover dermatology services in York, Scarborough, Malton and Selby.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Higher medical qualification (MRCP or equivalent).
* On the GMC Specialist Register for Dermatology, or within six months of obtaining CCT, CESR, or European Community Rights at the time of interview.
* Familiarity with service organisation and development is advantageous.

Based primarily at York Hospital with a peripheral site; flexible job plans can be discussed, including potential work at peripheral hospitals.
