ROLE: Quarry Safety Operative
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
LOCATION: Corsham

We're looking for an Underground Maintenance Operative who will be part of a small team carrying out day‑to‑day maintenance tasks, including Pre‑Planned Maintenance (PPMs) and general maintenance, to ensure the underground environments are safe, compliant, and presentable.
Role Responsibilities
1. You will be part of a small team to carry out day‑to‑day maintenance tasks including Pre Planned Maintenance (PPM's) and general maintenance to ensure the underground environments are safe, compliant and presentable
2. Uphold rigorous health & safety standards
3. Communicate & liaise with different stakeholders and contractors
Operational Delivery
4. Undertake daily PPMs to check various aspects of the underground, equipment and safe access routes
5. Ensure Health & Safety and compliance across all aspects of daily work
6. Carry out small maintenance tasks
7. Ensure efficient use and safe storage of equipment and chemicals
8. Provide excellent customer service to occupants
9. Provide accurate records and reports and maintain all assigned work order documentation
10. Proactively walk the underground, reporting any maintenance or safety issues
11. Participate in testing emergency responses for various situations
12. Support MOD Mine Management Team (MMT) as required to enable compliance with legal requirements (Mine Regulations )
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
13. Liaise with contractors, MOD MMT, facilities, security and end‑user stakeholders to minimise disruption, align priorities, and communicate planned works
Compliance, Quality & Sustainability
14. Meet or exceed contractual KPIs and service levels; ensure standards are consistently achieved
15. Maintain documentation for inspections, audits, and quality checks
Health & Safety
16. Follow H&S guidelines to ensure compliance with applicable Mine Regulations / Health & Safety legislation and MMT (MOD)/Estates policies (e.g., risk assessments, method statements, permits to work, toolbox talks, safe systems of work)
17. Asbestos Awareness
18. Participate in robust hazard reporting, near‑miss capture, and incident investigation; complete corrective and preventive actions
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the below‑defined requirements for the role.
19. Good knowledge of H&S and understanding of risks and hazards
20. Comfortable working in an underground environment ( feet below ground)
21. Ability to work as part of a small team
22. Must be physically fit due to the scale of the environment and the ability in an emergency to climb stairs (over steps)
23. Must be adaptable as the skills required are varied and the ability to consider / undertake ‘handyman' / minor mechanical tasks
24. Excellent communication (verbal / written), planning, and stakeholder management skills; confident with digital reporting tools
25. Consideration and interest of heritage and historical artefacts
26. Full UK driving licence
Desirable
27. IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
28. Certification in quarry safety “Safe in the Underground Environment” (or equivalent)
29. Experience working within MOD estates or other high‑security, high‑compliance environments
30. First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake
