We are building a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, designers and industry experts to tackle some of the world’s biggest problems: plastic pollution and food waste. This is a unique opportunity for a Research Technician to put your skills towards creating world-changing solutions by supporting our scientists on their mission.
Tasks
We are seeking a Research Technician to assist our scientists. This is a hands-on position for a highly motivated individual willing to work as a team on a variety of tasks, which include:
* Conducting experiments and assisting formulation scientists on R&D activities
* Daily sample making, prototype making and related hands-on tasks
* Taking stock of reagents, materials and lab equipment. Maintaining general lab upkeep and equipment quality control as well as performing regular equipment calibrations
* Liaising with suppliers to ensure adequate stock rotation and recording incoming materials for traceability
* With the support of our scientists, writing and reviewing procedures, instructions and guidelines relevant for daily work in the lab, including SOPs
* Assisting and supporting the continuous improvement of new product development programmes and processes
* Proactively identifying areas for improvement within the lab and conducting all work with good laboratory practice. Reporting any significant variation or fault to the line manager
* Conducting research via scientific papers and patents to identify new ingredients and methods to help us improve our product development and present findings clearly and effectively
* Comply with health and safety standards to maintain a safe working environment
* Keep the workspace clean and tidy on a daily basis
Requirements
* Minimum 2+ years’ work experience as a laboratory technician, working in a wet lab environment. (Please note that applicants with less than 2 years continuous work experience will not be considered)
* Experience in daily sample making, conducting experiments and hands-on, physically active tasks
* Previous industry experience in an R&D environment is essential for the role
* Ability to support scientists on all assigned roles and responsibilities
* Knowledge and ability to follow good laboratory practices and procedures to a high standard
* Good organisation skills, specifically for new product development, experimental processes and lab maintenance
* Accurate, persistent, organised and able to manage workload
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* High computer and Microsoft Office competency
* Access to own transport is an advantage
* Able to provide references from current or previous employers; we do not accept references from education institutions for this role
* You must be eligible to work in the UK and available to work on-site in Cambridge on a full-time basis
