This is a fabulous opportunity for an experienced operations manager with expertise in screening service delivery. As the Lung Cancer Screening programme transitions into a 'national screening programme,' this dynamic portfolio role requires excellent management, organisational, and leadership skills to deliver a transformational programme for patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire area. The role involves leading our recently re-modelled service delivery from private provider to in-house, managing our new trust-owned mobile CT scanner staffed by UHCW radiology department, and overseeing outsourced contracts for image reporting and mobile scanner logistics and maintenance.
The aim of Lung Cancer Screening is to enable early detection of lung cancer to save lives. Currently, 80% of participants in Coventry & Rugby diagnosed through the programme have early-stage lung cancer, compared to just over 20% prior to its introduction. NHSE plans to expand the programme nationwide by 2028, with Coventry, Rugby, and Warwickshire already established and expansion into South Warwickshire planned for 2026-2028.
This is an exciting time as the programme moves into in-house delivery and expands into the final area. The successful candidate must work autonomously, possess excellent operational, logistic, and problem-solving skills, be financially astute, and demonstrate strong staff management capabilities, especially during change processes. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the screening service across Coventry & Warwickshire, including managing the Lung Cancer screening team, logistics of the mobile CT unit, and collaboration with the trust radiology and PACS teams. The mobile CT travels across the region, and you must have access to a vehicle to address any location issues promptly.
This is initially a fixed-term post, with the programme expected to become part of a national initiative aligned with the NHS Long Term Plan. The role requires a driver with access to a suitable vehicle for mobile unit operations.
