If so, we welcome your application for the role of Matron for Perinatal Health and Wellbeing Services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a confident and experienced professional with a proven track record in senior leadership, service development, and multidisciplinary team management. You will have a good understanding of maternity public health priorities, excellent communication and influencing skills, and a commitment to delivering equitable, high-quality care.

This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for the strategic direction, operational delivery, and governance of a portfolio of specialist services including maternity smoking cessation, diabetes in pregnancy, pelvic health, infant feeding, perinatal mental health, and contraception. You will unify these services under a single leadership structure, ensuring alignment with national maternity transformation goals and local public health priorities.


Main duties of the job

* Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of Perinatal Health and Wellbeing Services.
* Integrate and manage a range of specialist maternity public health services within a cohesive governance framework.
* Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Develop and implement robust governance structures to ensure high standards of clinical quality, safety, and performance.
* Monitor service effectiveness through data analysis, performance indicators, and outcome reporting.
* Ensure compliance with national initiatives, including the Saving Babies’ Lives Care Bundle.
* Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service integration and patient pathways.
* Support workforce planning, recruitment, and the ongoing professional development of specialist midwives and staff.
* Champion equitable, inclusive, and high-quality care that meets the needs of diverse communities.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Registered Midwife (valid with NMC)
* Master’s Degree (or evidence of study in a relevant subject at master's level/post graduate qualification)
* Post registration qualification in Quality Improvement or relevant experience
* Public health qualification or clinical equivalent


Experience

* Professional clinical experience across a range of practice settings and roles
* Proven record of leading and effectively managing service development and practice change
* Project management and managing change experience and skills
* Evidence of leadership experience/potential


Skills and Knowledge

* Persuasion and influencing skills – ability to present ideas and proposals effectively.
* Highly developed leadership skills with excellent interpersonal skills – ability to form positive relationships at all levels
* Excellent performance management skills.
* Ability to demonstrate a broad and in-depth knowledge of NHS health policy and its implications for midwifery practice
* Ability to coordinate the completion of a number of projects simultaneously
* Previous experience of duty/site management
* Evidence of participation in service evaluation
* Knowledge of research/audit processes and application
