Join Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue as our Volunteer Head of Business Support. Help coordinate marketing, fundraising, events and IT while supporting volunteers who assist police in searching for vulnerable missing people across Berkshire.
What difference will you make?
This role helps ensure BLSAR has the resources, visibility and systems needed to support our operational volunteers. By strengthening fundraising, events, marketing and IT support, the volunteer will help us raise awareness, secure vital funding and keep our teams ready to respond when vulnerable people go missing.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a proactive, organised and collaborative volunteer who is interested in using their professional skills to support the work of Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue.
Our ideal volunteer will be someone who enjoys bringing people, projects and ideas together to help an organisation run smoothly and effectively. This role sits within our Leadership Team and helps coordinate several important support functions including marketing, fundraising, events and IT. Because of this, we are looking for someone who is comfortable working across different areas, setting priorities and supporting others to deliver shared goals.
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly valuable marketing and communications, fundraising, event coordination, business support, operations management or IT systems. However, it is not necessary for a volunteer to have experience in all of these areas. The most important thing is the ability to organise activities, coordinate volunteers and help build a small team that can deliver these functions collectively.
Strong organisational skills are essential. The volunteer should feel comfortable managing several tasks or projects at the same time and ensuring that activities are moving forward. They should also be confident communicating with different stakeholders, including volunteers, leadership team members, partners and supporters. Clear communication and the ability to collaborate effectively with others will help ensure that different parts of the organisation stay connected and aligned.
We are also looking for someone who is proactive and able to work independently. As with many volunteer roles, there will be flexibility in how and when tasks are completed, so the ability to take initiative and follow through on agreed priorities is important. A calm and practical approach to problem-solving is also helpful, particularly when working within a small volunteer team where people may have varying availability.
Experience using modern digital tools would also be beneficial. This might include familiarity with common office software such as Microsoft or Google tools, as well as experience with websites, social media platforms, CRM systems or other digital collaboration tools. The role does not require advanced technical expertise, but a willingness to support the use and development of simple, effective systems will help the organisation operate more efficiently.
Above all, we are looking for someone who is motivated by making a difference and supporting the work of a volunteer‑led charity. An interest in community service, teamwork and helping vulnerable people would align well with the mission of the organisation.
Search and Rescue experience is not required for this role. The volunteer will be supporting the organisation from a business and operational perspective rather than participating in search activities. All volunteers in this role will be asked to complete a DBS check as part of the onboarding process.
This role would suit someone who enjoys using their professional skills for a meaningful cause, working collaboratively with others and helping a volunteer organisation grow and develop its support capabilities.
