Construction Teaching Assistant – SEMH Secondary School
Location: Sutton
Hours: 8.30am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday
Start: ASAP or September
Pay: Competitive, depending on experience
We are currently recruiting for a Construction Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEMH secondary school in Sutton. This is a full-time role working with students aged 11–16 who present with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Key responsibilities:
1. Supporting students in practical construction sessions including bricklaying, tiling, and carpentry
2. Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management
3. Helping students to remain focused and engaged in hands-on learning
4. Promoting positive behaviour and managing challenging behaviour confidently and calmly
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience in construction trades such as bricklaying, tiling, or carpentry
* Previous experience supporting young people in a classroom or alternative provision setting
* A strong, resilient approach to working with challenging behaviour
* A passion for vocational learning and helping students develop practical life skills
