Can you re-imagine the laser? Are you ready to be part of a groundbreaking project that will use quantum-inspired technology to reshape the world of lasers and semiconductor technology? We are seeking an enthusiastic self-starter to join our team in the Quantum Engineering Technology Laboratories ( QET Labs ) at the University of Bristol. Our exciting EPSRC funded project will take laser technology to the next level with the introduction of Tamm Assisted Metasurface Surface Emitting Lasers (TAMSELs). TAMSELs are the future of semiconductor manufacturing, offering unprecedented advantages over traditional semiconductor laser designs. A quantum-inspired technology, they promise to increase manufacturing throughput by 50%, offer post-growth control of laser properties, and unlock the potential for faster modulation and reduced power consumption. TAMSELs have the potential to completely disrupt the sensing and datacentre communications markets. You’ll be joining a team of photonics experts, led by Dr Edmund Harbord, working on this project in the area of semiconductor quantum and quantum-inspired technologies. QET Labs is a Research Centre of over 100 academics, researchers, staff and students that encompasses a cluster of quantum-related activities spanning research, training and enterprise. Working together, we aim to transform science into real concept demonstrators and entrepreneurial innovation for the commercial success of quantum technologies. You will be part of a dynamic team and have the opportunity to interact with all members of QET Labs and the wider Bristol Quantum Information Institute. This position is well-suited for individuals with experience as a photonics engineer or some experience working in an optics lab.
