Axcis Education is working with an all-age SEND school in the Highgate area of Birmingham. The school specifically caters to children and young people aged 2-19 years with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) needs.
The school has a support staff vacancy for a teaching assistant who can ensure the pupils can learn effectively through feeling safe, happy and engaged. The staff member will need to be able to meet the very individual needs of its pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
This will be an active role with two key aspects:
1. Supporting individuals with physical needs, whom may be wheelchair users that may need assistance in manoeuvring as well as the use of a hoist.
2. Supporting individuals whom can be very active in and out of the classroom.
Another key aspect of this role will be to ensure all personal care tasks are carried out with the care and dignity of the individual being of the utmost priority.
Responsibilities include:
* Provide one-to-one or small-group support for pupils with PMLD.
* Assist with physical and personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, mobility, and medical needs where appropriate.
* Support pupils in accessing the curriculum using specialist equipment, communication aids, and sensory materials.
* Promote pupils’ independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
* Prepare learning resources under the guidance of teaching staff.
* Support in delivering lessons adapted to pupils individual needs.
* Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and challenges.
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and families.
* Uphold the school’s policies and values regarding inclusion, safeguarding and equality.
Requirements:
* Experience in supporting individuals with PMLD needs – Essential.
* Ability to support physical and personal care needs – Essential.
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required.
* Minimum of 2 good references – Essential.
