Job summary
Based at The Royal Oldham Hospital, this busy department provides Microbiology services for patients of Bury, Rochdale, Oldham Hospitals, and surrounding GPs. You will support technical Microbiology activities and help deliver a high-quality service.
Previous laboratory experience may be advantageous but is not essential, as full in-house training will be provided. Upon gaining competence, you will contribute to various areas of Microbiology.
The department operates from 07:00-20:00 Monday-Friday and 07:00-17:00 on weekends and bank holidays; staff are rotated across core, early, and late shifts over seven days.
Main duties of the job
The role involves diverse duties including testing samples, sample reception, data entry, autoclaving samples and waste, cleaning equipment, and other general laboratory tasks. You will process human samples such as urine, feces, and swabs. Some duties may require lifting and moving moderately heavy loads.
You must be highly organized and methodical, possess good communication and team-working skills, and be educated to GCSE level or equivalent in English and Maths. Accurate data entry and efficient typing skills are essential. A strong commitment to efficiency and personal responsibility to uphold high standards of work are vital.

Qualifications
* Essential: NVQ, GCSE (5 or more at Grade C or above), GCE, or equivalent
