Consultant Psychiatrist in OPMH - CMHT Moorgreen

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join The Older Peoples Mental Health team working in the community locality in the East of Southampton with a catchment area of 6,000 Older Adults.
The post holder will work in close collaboration with two senior doctors in the East Southampton team, which includes a full-time and a part-time consultant. The team is well-established, capable of undertaking initial assessments of referrals, including urgent ones, as part of an established duty system.
Main duties of the job
The service is based at Tom Rudd Unit, Moorgreen Hospital, West End, Southampton, SO30 3JB. The multidisciplinary Community Mental Health Team conducts assessments of new referrals, therapeutic interventions, monitoring, and carer support. The team meets every Tuesday for a clinical meeting to allocate new referrals and discuss patients.
The current clinical team includes 1.7 Consultant Psychiatrists, with this post making a total of 2.4. A higher ST4-ST6 trainee is also attached to this team, moving permanently from Moorgreen Hospital to Western Community Hospital. The team benefits from a recurring foundation year 2 (FY2) trainee, with plans to expand to include another FY2 trainee in August 2025. The team is supported by a full-time Band 7 team leader, community mental health nurses, a part-time occupational therapist, a part-time clinical psychologist, and a dedicated Band 6 nurse covering care homes in the East area. Additional support comes from healthcare support workers and administrative staff.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised basic Medical Degree
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration with license to practice
* Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register
* CCT in Old Age Psychiatry or within 12 months of award at the time of interview (applicants awaiting CCT decision are welcome to apply)
* Section 12 Approval
* Approved Clinician status
* Current driving licence
