Head of Commercial
We are excited to announce the opportunity to join one of the UK's largest services providers as we look to recruit a Head of Commercial to lead and govern all commercial aspects for project delivery within the Sellafield Integrated Asset Care Framework (IAC) - (c.£250m). The Head of Commercial will be responsible for the leadership of the commercial resources ensuring the continuation and development of a robust client facing commercial model to support our growth ambitions as well as the successful close out of the IAC Framework - looking to build in readiness for future opportunities.
Overview
The role will lead on the management of our commercial resources, processes and procedures including the associated sub-contracting and pricing arrangements and the most cost‑effective resource model through the management of the commercial resources and external support functions. The work scope includes mechanical, electrical and civil engineering with individual jobs and projects ranging from hundred to several million pounds. The contract is being delivered by OneAIM – a joint venture between Amentum and Mitie. You will be expected to work seamlessly and collaboratively with the customer managing both on and off‑site teams within the Cumbria area, spending c. 50% of your time at the Sellafield location.
Main Duties
* Provide a key link between Board and commercial project teams within remit to communicate company vision and future plans.
* Critically analyse project and regional information to develop strategic overview across region/business unit to spot risks, opportunities and trends.
* Establish targets, ensure the preparation of comprehensive and reliable cash forecasts, monitor results and interpret reasons for deviation; advise and guide team on established techniques to minimise outflow of cash and maximise inflow.
* Advise Board on progress of projects within area of responsibility.
* Ensure sound subcontract tendering process is implemented across portfolio of projects, including negotiation of subcontract terms, subcontract documents, pricing schedules and scope of works.
* Ensure the implementation of comprehensive project cost reporting systems across portfolio of projects.
* Lead and provide advice on negotiation of disputes securing acceptable commercial outcomes.
* Manage the change management procedures on projects.
* Lead, guide, and negotiate the approach format and timescales of complex valuations.
* Contribute to adjudication, principles, forecast and client progress meetings.
* Produce contractual correspondence and reports to requirements as well as supervising the preparation and presentation of these by commercial project leads.
* Ensure OneAIM commercial management processes are implemented and adhered to across portfolio of projects and provide guidance on standard processes.
* Undertake bi‑monthly commercial audits on projects within remit, including cross‑audits of projects outside remit.
* Regularly review existing processes, analysing any common errors, and implement improvements and share learning with wider commercial function.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of supply chain organisations with a view of realising future business development opportunities.
* Support the future proofing of regional commercial management function by developing technical and leadership capability across teams within area of responsibility.

Essential
* Relevant experience in a similar role.
* Self‑motivated with a flexible approach to work, and capable of working to deadlines.
* Excellent knowledge of contract law and familiar with forms of contract.
* Mobile and available to travel between sites.
* Evaluating variations to contract.
* Mechanical and Electrical services subcontracting.
* Subcontract and Project Work tendering.
* Vendor Appraisal.
* Analytical ability.
* Excellent numerical and communication skills.
* Good IT skills.
* Excellent negotiating skills.
* A high level of commercial awareness including knowledge of current contract legislation.
* A working knowledge of standard form contracts, including NEC terms and conditions.
* Experience of undertaking commercial and contractual reviews and the preparation of commercial and contractual summaries.
* Experience of negotiating contracts terms to successful close out.
Desirable
* Qualified to Degree Level & RICS or CIOB accreditation and/ or.
* Relevant experience of delivering project works on a standalone basis and within large, complex total facilities management contract, preferably within the nuclear sector (Sellafield).
