Job overview

The post holder will develop, lead and monitor all aspects of the operational development and some key elements of the Trusts strategic approach to patient safety and incident management processes across the complex areas of clinical and corporate services, based on a sound understanding of current legislative requirements, continually changing technology advances and national requirements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the operational management of patient safety including developing relevant strategies for this area of activity and determining the impact on the organisation. This will involve implementing and influencing change across the Trust and may be in challenging environments. This includes ensuring robust reporting systems, the monitoring of trends and the early identification of safety concerns through patient safety incidents. The post holder is responsible for the development and implementation of a number of associated Trust wide policies.

After you complete these six and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. We also offer a range of additional in-house and externally provided courses and bitesize programmes through our Leadership and Improvement Team.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Sound knowledge of the principles of health care governance
2. Excellent presentation skills
3. Demonstrable leadership qualities including working with others, holding to account and sharing the vision
4. Proven track record of developing practice to initiate, sustain and evaluate change
5. Evidence of commitment to patient focused care initiatives
6. Understanding of patient safety and governance within a complex organisation
7. Highly developed interpersonal skills, with tact, negotiating and diplomacy in influencing staff, partners and relevant organisations at all levels
8. Ability to assimilate information quickly, and analyse a wide range of complex data to develop impact analysis readily.
9. Making reasonable assessments and informed judgements in line with resource requirements and availability
10. Demonstrate political judgement and astute approach to handling diverse interests and complex relationships at senior level clear about referring upwards where necessary
11. Proven track record of working with patients and families and consistent demonstration of compassionate engagement

Experience

Essential criteria

12. Demonstrative experience in patient safety, clinical governance or equivalent
13. Experience of managing staff with responsibility for outcome delivery
14. Experience of delivering clear, succinct plans and reports and of reviewing the plans and reports of others
15. Experience of presenting and chairing meetings

Desirable criteria

16. Evidence of leading significant patient safety improvement across an organisation or service
