* PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,500 - £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As an Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and continuous operation of broadcast systems within the BBC site at Mediacity:UK in Salford as part of a team working 24/7 including night and weekend working. The successful candidate will ensure seamless delivery of broadcast services by managing, troubleshooting, and optimizing broadcast equipment, infrastructure, and workflows, supporting live and recorded content transmission, and collaborating with technical teams to deliver the highest quality output to audiences.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Monitor, maintain, and support broadcast technology systems across TV and Radio, as well as IP-based infrastructure in the transmission chain.
* Plan and perform scheduled and reactive maintenance on broadcast infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
* Understand and adhere to BBC safety policy, with particular attention to electrical safety, and perform maintenance, repairs and electrical safety testing on broadcast equipment.
* Collaborate with systems specialists to implement system upgrades and new technology deployments while adhering to the change control framework.
* Respond to and resolve operational incidents swiftly to minimise broadcast disruptions.
* Provide technical support during outside broadcasts and special events for TV and Radio.
* Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, incidents, resolutions and problems using appropriate service management tools.
Your Skills And Experience – Key Criteria
Essential Criteria
* Experience in Electronics, Telecommunications, Broadcast Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
* Strong understanding of broadcast signal flow, video and audio formats and transmission systems.
* Ability to diagnose and repair broadcast faults quickly and effectively under pressure in live broadcast environments.
* Proficiency in using broadcast monitoring tools and diagnostic equipment.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical issues to a wide range of audiences and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Desirable Criteria
* Knowledge of key aspects of post-production, long and short form editing systems, visual effects and graphics, sound design and mixing.
* Solid understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, multicast, VLANs, and routing.
* Working knowledge of both Windows and Mac based systems and software and Virtual Machines.
* Knowledge of Cloud based systems and software, Docker & Kubernetes.
* Experience of component level electronic fault finding and repair including SMT soldering.
