Job Title: Imports Coordinator
Salary: 15.00 - 17.00 P/hour
Location: Birchwood - fully on-site
Duration: 6 months - likely to extend!
Job Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Imports & Duty Team at Birchwood, supporting the import and customs procedures for goods entering the UK for Perkins Engines Company Ltd.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate the Ricardo Duty Management System in compliance with HMRC regulations.
* Raise and issue import instructions to agents, ensuring full HMRC compliance.
* Ensure import entries are completed, filed, and compliant by required deadlines.
* Support the use of Simplified Customs Declaration Procedures (SCDP).
* Authorise and verify the use of the company's deferment account.
* Maintain accurate import records via the Imports Master Log for audit and compliance.
* Liaise with suppliers, hauliers, and shipping lines to coordinate import logistics.
* Support Trade Compliance practices across the business.
* Review and improve internal processes for greater efficiency and cost savings.
* Process insurance claims under the Maritime Insurance Policy where applicable.
* Provide guidance on HMRC customs requirements to internal and external customers.
Skills & Experience
* Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g. SAP)
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office
* Prior experience in Supply Chain or Logistics
* Good understanding of UK import formalities
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
* Customer-focused mindset with a proactive approach
