Overview
This exciting new role as a podiatry support worker offers the right candidate the opportunity to work alongside and under the direction of HCPC registered podiatrists in delivering patient centered care and treatment for a number of foot conditions. The two roles will work across the city to deliver podiatry care in a variety of locations including health centres, patient homes, nursing and residential homes. It offers the opportunity to deliver education and act as a role model for the podiatry team. Competencies, education and training will be delivered to develop the assistant in their role. It offers the opportunity to develop and grow to consider completing a level 6 apprenticeship at a later date.
Responsibilities
* To carry out duties delegated and trained to be undertaken by an HCPC registered Podiatrist specific to a treatment plan and clinical need of the patient. Complete clinical notes and create appropriate follow up appointments.
* Identify when patients needs have changed and escalate back to HCPC podiatrist for further investigation and amendment to treatment plan.
* To carry out simple dressings for post op nail surgery or non complex wound care when clinically indicated by a HCPC registered podiatrist. To provide support with complex wound care and complex patient and manual handling service needs across clinics and domiciliary settings.
* Complete foot health screening, vascular, neurological assessments and report findings within the patient records for interpretation by a HCPC registered podiatrist.
* Issue simple insoles and orthotics and arrange appropriate follow up review appointments. Support the orthotic workshop with simple manufacturing and administration tasks.
* To provide advanced therapies under prescribed and directed preset dosages for extracorporeal shockwave therapy and low laser therapy following completion of mentored training from a HCPC registered podiatrist.
