Role Overview
We are looking for a safeguarding in Education expert to join the Multi Agency Child Protection Team to provide oversight, support, and contribute to decision making around cases sitting at Child Protection level. We are happy to consider candidates interested in part-time work. Please seek permission from your headteacher before applying.
Luton Council has been selected to deliver the government’s Families First for Children Pathfinder programme. Luton is one of seven areas in the second wave, aiming to protect vulnerable children and improve services to help children stay with their families in safe and loving homes.
The programme offers an opportunity to shape future social care practices, fostering closer collaboration with health, police, education, and voluntary sector partners.
Candidate Requirements
* Extensive safeguarding expertise with significant experience working with children and families in education, focusing on wellbeing and child protection.
* Proven ability to make critical decisions in complex child protection cases and ensure statutory responsibilities are met.
* Strong leadership skills and a proactive approach to building partnerships with statutory and voluntary agencies.
* Experience in auditing and reviewing safeguarding systems in schools, ensuring compliance and resolving issues.
* Deep knowledge of multi-agency safeguarding legislation and guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), and Section 175 of the Education Act (2002).
* Ability to act swiftly under pressure and manage tight deadlines in high-stakes situations.

* Act as a recognised safeguarding and child protection expert.
* Collaborate with partners across Children, Families & Education, Police, and Health sectors to ensure positive outcomes for children and young people.
* Champion education's role as a key safeguarding partner.
* Represent the education sector in the Pathfinder programme, ensuring its voice is heard and progress communicated.
* Lead investigations and decision-making in cases of significant harm.
* Drive the implementation of Families First for Children Pathfinder reforms in educational settings.
* Provide professional advice on educational standards and ensure compliance with Department for Education guidelines.
