The following are the core responsibilities of the Clinical Coder/Administrator. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
* Analysing patient records and recording all the relevant information
* Examining records and documentation for missing information including summarising
* Assigning industry-recognised codes
* Collaborating with Physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure information accuracy
* Scope to train other healthcare professionals on clinical coding practices in future
* Ensuring that the healthcare facility complies with clinical coding guidelines
* Ensuring that all clinical codes are current
* Assigning and sequencing all codes for services rendered
. Typing letters, reports and associated documentation as required
. Liaising with external agencies such as hospitals and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently
. Manage all enquires (telephone, email, online) in an effective manner
. Process patient deductions
. Process calling letters as requested
. Scanning of patient-related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patient's healthcare records
. Input data into the patient's healthcare records as necessary
. Read code data on EMIS
. Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the caller's request appropriately
. Manage all administrative queries as necessary
. Carry out system searches as requested
. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
. Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested

Education:
* GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
