Technical Buyer

A long-established and engineering manufacturer is seeking a proactive Technical Buyer to support its purchasing and subcontract operations. This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable, reputable organisation and play a key role in ensuring a smooth and retained supply chain flow.
Reporting to the key stakeholders, your key objectives will include the management of all subcontract suppliers involved in outsourced manufacturing processes, ensuring work is progressed efficiently and delivered on time. Prior technical knowledge of metals and raw materials used in the manufacturing processes is essential. You will be required to maintain accurate purchasing records working on a bespoke ERP system, supporting cost control, and providing all other general purchasing when required.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the daily flow of subcontract purchasing activity, including issuing purchase orders, securing order acknowledgements and ensuring all outsourced work is progressing to schedule.
Develop and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, contributing to discussions around pricing, commercial terms and delivery expectations.
Collaborate with the Quality team to review, assess and introduce alternative suppliers that can strengthen supply chain stability and reduce operational risk.
Track and evaluate supplier performance across key metrics such as delivery accuracy, quality and invoice correctness, supporting initiatives that drive ongoing improvement.
Monitor stock requirements and adjust purchasing activity in line with production plans and customer demand.
Keep purchasing, cost and inventory information up to date within the ERP system to ensure strong financial and operational control.
Share up-to-date supplier lead times with internal teams and escalate any concerns that could impact production schedules.
Maintain accurate records of subcontract supplier approvals and ensure all information is correctly logged in the ERP system.
Provide wider purchasing support as needed, including cover during periods of absence within the team.

Beneficial Experience
5+ years’ experience in purchasing, procurement or supply chain, ideally within manufacturing or engineering.
Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Commercially aware with a structured, detail-focused approach.
Experience with BOMs, plating specifications, ERP systems and inventory control.
Previous exposure to an engineering or technical manufacturing environment.
Strong IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel, with accurate reporting skills.
