About Surrey

Our Surrey Children's Services are actively working towards becoming a high-performing local authority, evidenced by the Family Safeguarding practice model in action with reductions in the number of children subject to child protection plans. We are focused on sustaining and developing progress through a supportive, well‑supported workforce delivering consistent and good quality social work practice for children and families.

Our Progress

We are proud of our recent Good Ofsted judgement, which marks a milestone for Surrey. The report notes that our social workers are skilled at building relationships with children on protection plans and that staff are well-trained, valued, and proud to work in Surrey.

About Our Family Safeguarding Service

Our Family Safeguarding services include responsibility for the Family Safeguarding Model, Child In Need, and pre- and court proceedings.

Within Family Safeguarding we use motivational interviewing and a multi-agency approach under the Family Safeguarding model, involving Social Workers, Family Support Workers, Domestic Abuse Practitioners, Recovery Workers, Mental Health Practitioners, and Psychologists to address family issues efficiently and reduce referrals to other agencies.

We seek dedicated, compassionate practitioners who are child-focused and committed to relationship-based social work.

We strive to provide a supportive and dynamic work environment, guarantee 5 days of CPD, and offer access to resources such as Community Care Inform, Care Knowledge and Research In Practice.

Why Choose Surrey?

Surrey is a large, ambitious local authority with access to diverse resources. Our staff share why they chose Surrey Children\'s social care and what makes the team special.

Our Staff Insights

* Positive team and colleague relationships: collaboration with supportive colleagues across the organisation and partners enhances practice.
* Flexibility and work-life balance: we support agile working; staff attend the office at least 2 days per week.
* Opportunities for professional development: access to ongoing training via our Surrey Children\'s Service Academy, coaching and mentoring, progression pathways, learning opportunities, and supervision.
* A sense of belonging and familiarity: you\'ll be part of a welcoming social work family where your expertise is valued.
* A focus on wellbeing: reflective supervision and wellbeing considerations are central to our conversations.

* Qualified Social Work degree and SWE Registration
* Car driver with a valid UK license
* ASYE completed, within two years of qualifying
* UK social work experience – at least 1 year frontline experience

Surrey has both urban and rural areas; a valid driving licence, access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel across a wide geographical area are expected.

To Apply

You will need to upload your CV and answer the following questions:

* What has motivated you to apply for this role?
* What key skills and experience will you bring to this role?
* What is your understanding of Surrey\'s Practice Model for family safeguarding? Describe strengths and challenges.

Next Steps

If shortlisted, you will be invited to a short virtual call (approximately 15–20 minutes) to explore your answers. If successful, you will be invited for an in-person interview to meet the team and see the office.

We are committed to inclusive recruitment. If you are invited to a face-to-face interview, we will share the themes of the questions in advance to help you prepare.

An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
