Personal Support Assistant
We are looking for a Personal Support Assistant to support a wonderful, engaging young man who has a diagnosis of Angelman Syndrome, which affects his learning, communication, behaviour, and sleep. He has severe asthma and is allergic to grass, pollen, penicillin, and dust. He always carries an EpiPen with him to use in an emergency. His verbal communication is limited, can become frustrated, and has some behavioural issues at times.
Working Hours
* 20 hours per week (39 weeks per term time)
* 26 hours per week (13 weeks school holidays)
* Term Time – 39 weeks
* Monday to Friday – 08:00 – 09:30 am on a 1:1 to support in the home and to get to school.
* Teatime support: Collect him from school 3 times a week (days to be arranged) 15:00 – 18:00.
* Weekend support – 52 weeks per year: 5 hours on a 2:1 (either Saturday or Sunday) for social support in the community.
* Holiday Day Care – 13 weeks per year (14 weeks in 2026): 8 hours on a 2:1 for social support in the community.
* 10 hours per week on a 1:1 staffing to support him & Mum on family days out.
Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 personal support in the home and at school; manage medication and administer in line with healthcare advice; conduct risk assessments; support behaviour and de‑escalation; provide first aid; respond to allergies and administer EpiPen; assist with transport and community visits; support both the young man and his mother on family days out.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Full driving licence and ability to drive.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Reliable and trustworthy.
* Experience in making risk assessments.
* Experience or training in safely administering medication.
* First Aid certification.
* Knowledge of allergy management and use of EpiPen.
* Experience in behaviour support and de‑escalation.
Interests & Personality Expectations
Positive, energetic, bubbly, easy‑going, and with interests similar to the young man's – playing PlayStation, walking, 10‑pin bowling, and driving in the car. Male support is preferred.
Pay Rate
£13.25 per hour (to be upgraded).
Additional Information
The young man has a cat, so potential allergies must be considered. The PA should be able to adapt to his needs.
