Job summary
The post-holder will initially be the first point of contact and provide support for staff who wish to raise concerns related to sexual safety or who have experienced sexual misconduct or other sensitive workplace incidents. The post holder will report to the Lead for Vulnerable People/Corporate Nursing. The Sexual Safety Liaison Officer will be responsible for implementing culture change and embedding sexual safety awareness across the Trust. Their focus will be ensuring that staff feel safe and empowered to report concerns. The role will also include promoting a safe environment across the Trust, in line with the Sexual Safety Charter and programs of work that advocate for UHNM to become a safe place to work and learn. Advocacy for those raising concerns regarding sexual safety in the workplace will be essential. The post holder will champion, in collaboration with the Corporate Safeguarding Team and HR People Team in raising awareness regarding sexual safety across the Trust to students, staff and patients, and support in education of related sexual safety education. The post holder will work collaboratively with Operational Managers and HR colleagues to ensure departmental managers are trained, confident and supported to deal with concerns of this nature.
Responsibilities
* Maintain Sexual Safety Support functions as an integral part of the Trusts services.
* Keep current the skill sets required for the role.
* Ensure existing Trust policies and processes allow for sensitive and swift management of concerns regarding Sexual Safety, liaising with relevant stakeholders to influence change in practices.
* Contribute to the review of relevant policies and procedures.
* Undertake audits on a quarterly basis to ensure compliance with policy and procedures aligned to sexual safety in the workplace. Produce reports to evidence audit results.
* Deliver difficult, contentious and uncomfortable information to senior managers regarding Sexual Safety and its continued development across UHNM.
* Work in emotional and sensitive situations requiring high emotional effort, mental ability and concentration; remain calm, compassionate, diplomatic and tactful; handle highly sensitive confidential information.
* Work with the Corporate Safeguarding Team, HR People Teams and People Organisational Development to implement new ways of working in relation to Sexual Safety across the Trust, collaborating with teams across the Care Groups.
* Promote awareness of Sexual Safety across the Trust to students, staff and patients.
Qualifications
Essential
* Degree qualification or equivalent experience or training in a specialised discipline (e.g., Nursing, AHP, Social care professional, police, etc.).
Desirable
* Counselling Qualification
* Independent Sexual Advisor Qualification or evidence of training undertaken – expertise in this subject
Experience
Essential
* Experience of dealing with concerns of sexual safety in the workplace.
* Experience of working with patients/staff/service users who have experienced sexual assault.
* Experience of working with patients/staff affected by trauma and understanding of trauma-informed care.
Desirable
* Ability to utilise initiative to solve problems and develop the service.
* Ability to understand, interpret and critically analyse data and information.
