Overview
We have openings for Prison Custody Officers at HMP Five Wells, Wellingborough. This is a permanent, full-time role with an average of 40 hours per week and various shifts. The salary is £30,021.53 per annum, increasing to £32,404.71 per annum after 2 years’ service. Responsibilities
* Provide structure and routine for prisoners, ensuring they attend work, engage in education or work activities, and are secure in their cells in the evening.
* Treat prisoners with dignity and respect while maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment.
* Support rehabilitation aims and help prisoners prepare for reintegration into mainstream society on release.
* Engage in comprehensive training and shadow qualified PCOs to gain practical on-the-job experience.
* Work a variety of shifts (including weekends, evenings and nights) on a rolling pattern with notice for any changes.
Qualifications
* No specific qualifications or prior experience required; candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
* Good communication skills, resilience, and active listening are desirable traits.
Requirements
* Eligibility to work in the UK and full disclosure of employment and education history for the last 5 years as part of security screening.
* Role subject to a 5-year checkable history and strict vetting standards by G4S CaRS, HMPPS, and related bodies; exemption from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act applies.
Training
* Comprehensive training to deliver the full scope of the role, including Control & Restraint, First Aid, Interpersonal Skills, Health & Safety, and on-the-job shadowing with qualified PCOs.
* Development Pathway available from Prison Custody Officer through to middle management for interested staff.
